SurgiWrapi" Bioresorbable Adhesion Barrier Film
Bioresorbable Thin Film Solutions
SurgiWrapi" Bioresorbable Adhesion Barrier Film provides the surgeon with a bioresorbable barrier to control postsurgical adhesions in general surgery, and obstetrics and gynecology applications. This adhesion or scar tissue can lead to a variety of complications such as bowel obstruction, severe pelvic pain, and infertility. SurgiWrapi" Bioresorbable Adhesion Barrier Film aids in reoperation procedures by promoting the formation of a surgical dissection plane.
"Postsurgical adhesions account for 79% to 92% of acquired adhesions"
(European Journal of Surgery, 1997)
Discussion Adhesions
Research, compiled through over 4 years of preclinical studies, has shown that in addition to its reinforcement properties, our bioresorbable thin film also acts as a barrier, controlling the formation of fibrous bands which cause adhesions. Such scarring is historically problematic in almost every kind of operation, often leading to significant pain, and specific anatomic functional impairments, such as bowel obstruction and female infertility. In many cases, additional surgery is required to remove damaging adhesions, but with limited long-term clinical success.
1. Cellular Response to Trauma after trauma a fibrin matrix begins to form. Fibroblasts, fibrin threads and histamines proliferate.
2. Adhesion Formation fibrin bands form between two tissues. The resulting adhesions pull surrounding tissues together causing adverse effects.
3. Bioresorbable Solution placement of bioresorbable barrier film for the control of adhesion formation and the creation of a surgical dissection plane for reoperation.
Soft Tissue Applications
SurgiWrapi" Bioresorbable Adhesion Barrier Film is also indicated for use wherever temporary wound support is required, and to reinforce soft tissue where weakness exists.
1. Bioresorbable adhesion barrier films may be used for soft tissue reinforcement for surgical procedures including colon repair.
2. SurgiWrapi" Bioresorbable Adhesion Barrier Film is indicated for pelvic floor reconstruction, vaginal prolapse repair, and sacral colposuspension.
3. Bioresorbable adhesion barrier films may be used as a temporary bridging material for soft tissue applications, such as hernia repair and other fascial defects.
Bioresorbable Thin Film Advantages
- Transparent, ultra thin profile to allow simplified intraoperative placement and repositioning without obscuring visualization of underlying tissues.
- Significant strength retention for up to 8 weeks to maintain barrier function throughout critical healing period.
- Bioresorbable/biocompatible material provides safe resorption and metabolization with minimal risk of inflammatory reaction.
- No human or animal components, no risk of disease transmission.
- Demonstrated efficacy in reducing adhesion volume and tenacity which may reduce surgery time and facilitates dissection on subsequent procedures.
