Christopher J. Calhoun, President/Chief Executive Officer, Vice-Chairman and Director Christopher J. Calhoun
Chief Executive Officer, Vice-Chairman and Director

Christopher J. Calhoun is a co-founder of MacroPore Biosurgery and has served as the Company's Chief Executive Officer, Vice-Chairman and Director of the Board since 1997, and as President from April 2002 to May 2004. Mr. Calhoun previously served as the Company's President from 1996 through 1998. Mr. Calhoun is also the co-inventor on multiple US and International patents used for our bioresorbable implant technology. These inventions include bioresorbable polymers for skeletal repair and regeneration, implant surfaces for tissue guidance, and postsurgical scar tissue reduction. Mr. Calhoun has various other US and International patents pending for medical devices and implant instrumentation. Mr. Calhoun was also involved in research and management for the Plastic Surgery Bone Histology and Histometry Laboratory at the University of California, San Diego. Mr. Calhoun is a co-founder and Board member of Leonardo MD, serves on the Board of Directors of Artes Medical and previously served on the Board of Directors of StemSource, Inc. Mr. Calhoun received a BA from the University of California, San Diego and an MBA from the University of Phoenix.

Marc H. Hedrick, MD, Chief Scientific Officer, Medical Director and Director Marc H. Hedrick, MD
President and Director

Dr. Marc H. Hedrick was appointed President May 2004. Dr. Hedrick joined MacroPore Biosurgery as Chief Scientific Officer, Medical Director and Director in October 2002. Previously, Dr. Hedrick co-founded, and served as President and Chief Executive Officer of StemSource, Inc., a company specializing in stem cell bioengineering, research and technology. Dr. Hedrick is a Plastic Surgeon, and is an Associate Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and since 1998, has directed the Laboratory of Regenerative Bioengineering and Repair for the Department of Surgery. Dr. Hedrick obtained his MD degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Dallas.

Sharon V. Schulzki was appointed Chief Operating Officer in January 2004. Previously, Mrs. Schulzki served as the Senior Vice President of Marketing & Development since September 2002. Joining the Company in July 2000, Mrs. Schulzki held the position of Senior Vice President and General Manager - Spine & Orthopedics. Prior to joining MacroPore Biosurgery, she was a Vice President with the Howmedica, Inc., Division of Pfizer, a manufacturer of medical devices. She also served as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing and Product Development with Howmedica Leibinger, Inc. Mrs. Schulzki holds a BS from Loyola College in Baltimore, MD.

Mark E. Saad joined MacroPore Biosurgery as Chief Financial Officer June 2004. Previously, Mr. Saad served as Chief Operating Officer of UBS, Healthcare Investment Banking, New York, where he was responsible for global investment banking operations. Upon joining UBS, Mr. Saad served as Director/Executive Director covering life sciences sectors - biotechnology and medical devices. Mr. Saad was instrumental in building the UBS franchise to become the largest healthcare group on Wall Street with number one market share in 2001, 2002 and 2003. Prior to joining UBS, Mr. Saad held the position of Financial Analyst/Associate with Salomon, Smith Barney, Healthcare Investment Banking, New York, where he managed public and private transactions. Mr. Saad holds a BA from Villanova University, Philadelphia, PA.

Bruce Reuter, Senior Vice President - International Business Bruce Reuter

Bruce Reuter was appointed Senior Vice President of Business Development January 2004. Mr. Reuter has served as Senior Vice President International Business since September 2002. Since joining the Company in January of 2001, Mr. Reuter has held the positions of Senior Vice President of International Market Development and Vice President and General Manager of the CMF/Neuro business unit. Prior to joining MacroPore Biosurgery, he was Vice President and Managing Director of Mentor International, a multi-national marketer of medical devices. Mr. Reuter holds a BA from the University of Rhode Island and an MBA from Memphis State University.

Charles E. Galetto, Senior Vice President - Finance and Administration/Treasurer Charles E. Galetto
Senior Vice President Finance and Administration/Treasurer

Charles E. Galetto has served as MacroPore Biosurgery's Senior Vice President Finance and Administration and Treasurer since April 2000. Previously, Mr. Galetto served as Senior Vice President Finance and Treasurer with PMR Corporation, a company specializing in mental health care programs. Before joining PMR, he served as Vice President Corporate Controller of Medtrans, a division of Laidlaw, Inc., and Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer and Secretary of Data/Ware Development, Inc. Mr. Galetto is a certified public accountant and holds a BS from Wayne State University.


Matthew Scott, Vice President - Sales Matthew Scott
Vice President Vascular-Regenerative Medicine

Matthew Scott was appointed Vice President, Vascular-Regenerative Medicine April 2004. Mr. Scott has served as Vice President of Sales since 2002. Previosuly, Mr. Scott held the position of Vice President of the Biologics business unit, and upon joining the Company in 1998, he served as Global Director of Training and Client Development. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Scott was a National Sales Manager for The Straumann Company, a medical device and implantology company. He received his BS Degree from the University of Arkansas and was selected by the U.S. Army, Healthcare Leadership Fellowship Program to receive interdisciplinary Masters Degrees: MBA/MS Healthcare Management.

Vice President Research & Technology

Dr. John K. Fraser has served as Vice President of Research & Technology since June 2004. Upon joining the Company in October 2002, he served as Vice President, Research & Technology Biologics. Prior to joining MacroPore Biosurgery, Dr. Fraser was Chief Scientific Officer, and Director of Research, Stem Cell Services at StemSource, Inc., a company specializing in stem cell bioengineering and research. After completing his PhD, Dr. Fraser joined the Department of Medicine at UCLA, where he maintains the title of Associate Professor, UCLA School of Medicine. Dr. Fraser received his BSc from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand and his PhD from University of Otago, New Zealand.

Elizabeth A. Scarbrough, Vice President - Marketing and Development Biologics Elizabeth A. Scarbrough
Vice President Marketing & Development Biologics

Elizabeth A. Scarbrough has served as Vice President of Marketing & Development since October 2002. Prior to joining the Company, she held the position of Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing for StemSource, Inc., a California company specializing in stem cell bioengineering technology. Before joining StemSource, Inc., Mrs. Scarbrough served as Vice President of Mentor Corporation, a medical device company with global marketing and distribution. She holds a BS degree from Pennsylvania State University.

Seijiro Shirahama, Vice President - Asia Pacific Seijiro Shirahama
Vice President Asia Pacific

Seijiro Shirahama has served as the Company's Vice President Asia Pacific, since September 2002. Prior to joining MacroPore Biosurgery, he was a President of Touchmetrics K.K., a diagnostic ultrasound firm. Prior to that Mr. Shirahama held executive positions with health care leaders such as, Baxter, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Pharmacia and Ioptex in Japan. He holds a BA from Kanagawa University in Yokohama, Japan and an MA from the University of San Francisco.
