Members of MacroPore Biosurgery's Board of Directors are accomplished management executives from major medical and high-technology companies worldwide. Involved in day-to-day operations and overall strategy guidance, they maintain the Company's vision and mission.

Marshall G. Cox, Chairman of the Board and Director Marshall G. Cox
Chairman of the Board and Director
Marshall G. Cox has served as MacroPore Biosurgery's Chairman of the Board and Director since May 1997. Previously, Mr. Cox founded Western Micro Technology, Inc. and served as the Company's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, retiring as Chairman Emeritus in 1997. He also serves as Managing Director of the Saratoga Boy's Club and serves on the Board of Directors of Internix, Inc. Mr. Cox holds a BS from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Christopher J. Calhoun is a co-founder of MacroPore Biosurgery and has served as the Company's Chief Executive Officer, Vice-Chairman and Director of the Board since 1997, and as President from April 2002 to May 2004. Mr. Calhoun previously served as the Company's President from 1996 through 1998. Mr. Calhoun is also the co-inventor on multiple US and International patents used for our bioresorbable implant technology. These inventions include bioresorbable polymers for skeletal repair and regeneration, implant surfaces for tissue guidance, and postsurgical scar tissue reduction. Mr. Calhoun has various other US and International patents pending for medical devices and implant instrumentation. Mr. Calhoun was also involved in research and management for the Plastic Surgery Bone Histology and Histometry Laboratory at the University of California, San Diego. Mr. Calhoun is a co-founder and Board member of Leonardo MD, serves on the Board of Directors of Artes Medical and previously served on the Board of Directors of StemSource, Inc. Mr. Calhoun received a BA from the University of California, San Diego and an MBA from the University of Phoenix.

Dr. Marc H. Hedrick was appointed President May 2004. Dr. Hedrick joined MacroPore Biosurgery as Chief Scientific Officer, Medical Director and Director in October 2002. Previously, Dr. Hedrick co-founded, and served as President and Chief Executive Officer of StemSource, Inc., a company specializing in stem cell bioengineering, research and technology. Dr. Hedrick is a Plastic Surgeon, and is an Associate Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and since 1998, has directed the Laboratory of Regenerative Bioengineering and Repair for the Department of Surgery. Dr. Hedrick obtained his MD degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Dallas.

David Rickey, Director David Rickey

David Rickey has served as a Director of MacroPore Biosurgery since November 1999. Since 1996, Mr. Rickey has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Applied Micro Circuits Corporation, a company providing high-performance, high-bandwidth silicon solutions for optical networks. He also serves as Director for Applied Micro Circuits Corporation and Silicon Wave. Mr. Rickey holds two BS degrees from Marietta College and Columbia University and an MS from Stanford University.

Ronald D. Henriksen joined MacroPore Biosurgery as Director in October 2002. Previously Mr. Henriksen was a Board member of StemSource, Inc. Mr. Henriksen currently serves as Chief Investment officer of Twilight Ventures, LLC. With more than 30 years experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical, biotechnology and consulting and venture capital industries, Mr. Henriksen has held executive positions with Eli Lilly and Company for more than 20 years. At Lilly he served as Managing Director for Brazil, Mexico and Central America, and negotiated international contracts through Lilly Business Development. Mr. Henriksen also served as President of Indiana University Advanced Research & Technology Institute, and as CEO of Itasca Ventures, LLC, and President /CEO of Khepri Pharmaceuticals. Additional Board Directorships include Chairman of the Board of CyberLearning Labs, an educational software company, and Neuomed Technologies, a biotechnology company. He is also a board member of QLT, Inc., Canada's second largest biopharmaceutical company, and is President of Revaax Pharmaceuticals, an Indianapolis-based pharmaceutical company. Mr. Henriksen received his BS in Industrial Administration at Iowa State University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He also served as an officer for four years in the US Navy.

E. Carmack Holmes, MD, joined MacroPore Biosurgery as Director in August 2003. Dr. Holmes serves as the Surgeon-in-Chief of the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical Center and holds the position of William P. Longmire, Jr. Professor and Chairman, Department of Surgery, UCLA School of Medicine. He joined UCLA in 1973 and has held professorial positions in the Divisions of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Surgical Oncology for over 30 years. He served as Vice-Chairman for five years prior to holding the positions of Chairman and Surgeon-in-Chief for the past ten years. Dr. Holmes is the recipient of numerous awards and grants and memberships include the American Surgical Association, the American College of Surgeons and the Association for Academic Surgeons. He has authored 250 medical publications throughout his career and has been an internationally invited lecturer for over 25 years. His surgical training was conducted at Johns Hopkins University and the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Holmes graduated from Duke University and holds an MD from the University of North Carolina Medical School.
